Nathália Castro

Junior Researcher

Nathália Castro da Silva is a PhD fellow in Criminology at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto. Her research project, which focuses on the interactions between migrant women victims of crime and the justice system, is funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). She holds a Master’s degree in Criminology and a Bachelor’s degree in Law. She is a Victim Support Officer and a qualified lawyer registered with both the Brazilian Bar Association and the Portuguese Bar Association.

Her research interests include victimological studies using qualitative methodologies, experiences of victimisation, the feminisation of migration, and narrative, critical, and intersectional perspectives in Criminology, as well as the development of Narrative Victimology.

She is a member of groups and communities related to her areas of interest, such as the European Society of Criminology (ESC), the Help-The-Researchers Working Group – LaEUMiDI, the International Association of Criminology in the Portuguese Language (AICLP), and the MIGAP Community – MigrAção no Porto.

She contributes to the organisation of scientific events relevant to her field of research, including the Masterclass in Victimology – Narrative Victimology: From Theory to Practice, aimed at researchers and professionals working with victims (Porto, 2025), and the Fall Session of the Common Study Programme in Critical Criminology (Porto, 2024), both held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto.
