She obtained her PhD in Civil Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto (2010). She also has a master’s degree in Banking and Corporate Law, Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Coimbra (1998) and a postgraduate degree in Banking Law, Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Salamanca, Spain (2002).
She is an Associate Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Porto, Portugal, teaching Civil Law (General Part) since 1997 and Contract Law since 2002, on the under graduate and postgraduate courses.
She is a researcher at CIJ—Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Justice, at C3P—Center of Competence in Cyber Security and Privacy and at Grupo de Investigación Reconocido sobre Derecho de las Nuevas Tecnologias y Delincuencia Informática (University of Valladolid, Spain); and a member of the European Law Institute-ELI.
She is General Editor and member of the Editorial Board of UPorto’s electronic law journal RED—Revista Electrónica de Direito.
Her main research fields of interest are contract law and banking law, including electronic payments, e-commerce and consumer protection.
Maria Raquel Guimarães has published more than fifty titles, including books, book chapters, and articles, most significantly in civil, contract and banking law.
