Counsellor Judge at the Portuguese Supreme Court of Justice, where she joined by public examination where she took office on 26 September 2012.
She was also a Judge of the Constitutional Court, elected by the Portuguese Parliament, between July 2016 and July 2019.
 
She holds a PhD in Civil Law from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto, where she taught Introduction to Law, History of Law, Family Law, Fundamental Principles of Private Law, General Theory of Legal Relationships, Rights in Property and Children's Law between 1989 and 2012.
She is the author of the monographs “Regulação do exercício das responsabilidades parentais nos casos de divórcio”, in its 6th edition (2014), Invalidade e registo. A protecção do terceiro adquirente de boa fé” (2010) and “Temas de Direito das Crianças” (2014) and articles on adoption, sexual abuse of children, domestic violence, rape and women's rights, as well as civil liability, land registry, contracts and termination of employment contracts for just cause.

Member of Instituto Brasileiro de Direito da Família and of Centro de Direito da Família at Universidade de Coimbra..
Founding member of the Associação Projeto Criar and of Associação Dignidade.
