i.PLACING: Multi-level Spatial, Visual and Social Analysis of Urban Safety in Transit Environments: Integration in place-making through innovations in geospatial technology and the mix-method combination of big and small data
Leading Researcher: Carla Cardoso (Coordinator of the FDUP Team)
CIJ/FDUP is part of the project “i.PLACING: Multi-level Spatial, Visual and Social Analysis of Urban Safety in Transit Environments: Integration in place-making through innovations in geospatial technology and the mix-method combination of big and small data”, developed in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto.
The study aims to assess and monitor levels of safety and vulnerability in cities, with a particular focus on public transport stations. It combines insights from Geography, Criminology, Design, and Policing, promoting an interdisciplinary approach to urban safety.
Through the use of geospatial and artificial intelligence tools, and the integrated analysis of big and small data, the project will test innovative urban planning and design solutions aimed at creating safer and more inclusive cities.
With an expected duration of three years and funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, CIJ/FDUP team is coordinated by Carla Sofia Cardoso, also including António Leitão da Silva, Gilda Santos, Inês Sousa Guedes, Josefina Castro and Samuel Moreira.
