Collaborator Researcher
Margarida Santos holds a Ph.D. in Criminology from FDUP (Faculty of Law, University of Porto) and works as a Guest Assistant Professor in the undergraduate and graduate Criminology programs at the University of Porto and Universidade do Porto e na Universidade Lusíada – Porto (UL). She is a member of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Justice at FDUP (CIJ) and of the Center for Legal, Economic, International and Environmental Studies (CEJEIA) at UL. She is also a member of the Ethics Committee at FDUP and of the Scientific Committee for the doctoral program in Criminology at FDUP.
Her primary research area focuses on explaining the development of antisocial and delinquent behaviours in children and youth, as well as early prevention strategies. Within this field, she has a particular interest in socialization processes (e.g., parenting), as well as individual factors (e.g., temperament) and environmental factors (e.g., school, residential area, deviant peers) associated with this phenomenon. More recently, she has also developed an interest in the field of restorative justice.
Currently, she coordinates the project "PROTEC-C – Understanding Protective Factors Against Antisocial Behavior in Socioeconomically Vulnerable Children and Youth: A National Cross-Sectional Study" at FDUP. This project is funded by the Social Observatory – "La Caixa" Foundation as part of the competition to support research projects on childhood and vulnerability. Additionally, she co-coordinates the project "Restorative Justice and Juvenile Delinquency: An Action-Research Project" at UL.
She frequently participates in national and international scientific events and has published in book chapters and peer-reviewed journals in her main areas of interest.
