Conference "The New Legal Framework for Professional Associations"

Main Hall of the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto

September 29, 2023

The practice of various professions has been the subject of legislative initiatives by the government and parties sitting in the Portuguese Parliament.

In March, Law 12/2023 was published, focusing on and changing the legal framework for the creation, organisation and operation of professional associations. The Constitutional Court found no inconsistencies with fundamental law, but this did not diminish the controversy, which involves issues and principles related to access to the profession, the safety and quality of the activities covered, autonomy or competition. On 15 June 2023, the Council of Ministers approved the draft law, to be submitted to Parliament, which adapts the statutes of the professional associations to the provisions of Law 12/2023.

The CIJ and the FDUP want to contribute to the debate on the reform underway, which is why they are organising the conference "The New Legal Regime for Professional Associations", to be held on September 29, 2023, in the Main Hall of the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto, where those responsible and the main responsibles will be present.

This initiative is aimed at the academic community and all those interested in the various sectors covered, as well as society and citizens, whose interests should be the focus of legislative action.
