Biografia

Prof. Vitulia Ivone is Professor of Private law, Faculty of Law, University of Salerno; Lecturer of Civil law at the Specialization School for Legal Professions; Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Fondazione Scuola Medica Salernitana; Member of the academic board and professor in the Ph.D. Programme on “Legal Sciences”, University of Salerno; Member of the Patent Commission of the University of Salerno; Member of the Scientific Committee of the Observatory on Human Rights: Bioethics, Health, Environment; Member of the Scientific Board of the journals Biodiritto (Aracne Rome) and Cuadernos de Bioética (UMSA, Buenos Aires); Recipient of a scholarship for the international mobility of researchers granted by the Province and the University of Salerno; Co-director of the International Summer School on Law, Bioethics and Health 2015, School of Law, University of Salerno; Member of the Scientific Committee of "Projecto Procriação Medicamente Assistida", Centro de investigação da FDUP (Prof. Luisa Neto); member of Scientific Committee of Sociedad Internacional de Bioetica (president M. Palacios).

Prof. Ivone’s scientific interests are especially focused on bioethical and biolegal subjects concerning the right to health and the beginning and end of life (informed consent, medically assisted procreation, pre-implantation genetic tests, advance directives and living wills, palliative care, dignity and human rights at the end of life, medical responsibility). Besides the classical topics of private law, her interests also include gender, intellectual property, freedom of scientific research, protection of cultural property, and biotechnologies.

She is the principal investigator of national and international research projects funded by the University of Salerno, including “Reproductive Rights” (FARB 2017) and a member of the research group of the Italo-German Vigoni Project 2011-2012 on "Legal and ethical questions raised by end-of-life decision-making in Germany and Italy: a comparative and international law perspective", co-directed by Professors Jochen Taupitz and Stefania Negri, as well as a member of the research group of the international research project funded by the University of Salerno on “Bioethics and international law in the relationship between life, death and human dignity”.
