URBAN ART AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
22 April 2022 - FDUP

"A wall is a very big weapon; It's one of the nastiest things you can hit someone with", wrote Banksy, in Banging Your Head Against a Brick Wall.
In fact, not being the wall or its stones thrown, the message expressed in it can be an incisive, powerful weapon, with a political, social, cultural and even economic reach. In any case, the message on the wall, written or pictorial, will be the product of an author's ingenuity, even if of greater or lesser artistic value.
After the International Congress Art hit the streets: the legal protection of graffiti, which took place in November 2021, CIJ is now organising, in partnership with ASEDA - Asociación para el Estudio y la Enseñanza del Derecho de Autor (Association for the Study and Teaching of Copyright), a conference dedicated to urban art and intellectual property issues. The use of photographs of urban art works, namely for commercial purposes, the interactions between graffiti and brands, the difficulties posed by the need to protect the moral rights of the authors of "prohibited or illicit works" and the phenomenon of the "institutionalisation" of urban art through the classic circuits of galleries and museums, are some of the topics to be addressed at this Conference.
The opportunity to count on ASEDA's experts for this reflection will certainly allow to shed light on the issues enunciated.

Attendance is free, with registration through the form available here.

The event will take place only in a face-to-face format, limited to the capacity of the Main Hall of the FDUP.
