FDUP & Online
11 December 2025
On 11 December 2025, between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm, the event “Rural Criminology and Policing” will take place at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto and online (https://zoom.us/j/99176116107?pwd=7C0eCeoD7bprVfsQ3pUeZkbTALCPSa.1).
This initiative brings together several specialists who will present research on crime, insecurity, and dynamics of social control in rural contexts, as well as policing practices in low-density territories. Rural criminology has been gaining increasing scientific and social attention, highlighting how the specific characteristics of rural life shape both the occurrence and perception of crime, as well as the capacity of formal social control institutions to respond effectively.
Understanding these dynamics is essential for deepening knowledge about criminal phenomena and for fostering critical reflection on policing models better suited to rural realities. The event will also be moderated by two lecturers from the School of Criminology.
Admission is free. Participants who wish to obtain a certificate of attendance should send their request to ssilva@direito.up.pt.
