Conference “Data Protection and Digital Markets: Regulatory Balance in the Age of Platforms”

Nos dias 27 e 28 de novembro de 2025, terão lugar na FDUP as Jornadas "Proteção de Dados e Mercados Digitais: Equilíbrio Normativo na Era das Plataformas", coorganizadas pelo CIJ/FDUP e pela Universidade de A Coruña.
In the platform economy, data has effectively become a form of currency, generating profound tensions between the protection of privacy and the imperatives of contemporary business models. European regulations—most notably the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA)—aim to guarantee transparency, informed consent, and individual control over personal information. Yet, persistent challenges such as algorithmic opacity and user profiling call for innovative and adaptive legal responses. The protection of vulnerable groups, particularly minors, as well as the growing influence of artificial intelligence, further underscore the urgency of proactive and forward-looking regulation. This conference invites a critical reflection on how to construct a fair and effective regulatory framework that is responsive to the evolving complexities of the digital environment.
