Abstract

Over the past decade, sexual harassment (SH) in public spaces has garnered considerable attention due to its widespread prevalence. Nevertheless, its extent, where and how it occurs, still lack empirical evidence, especially in transit environments. In these environments, SH is erroneously perceived as part of women's daily lives, having repercussions on their mobility. This article seeks to elucidate how SH behaviors in this context reflect discriminatory attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate gender inequality, ultimately hindering the recognition, prevention, and appropriate response to this phenomenon.
