Disinformation Dynamics: Crossing Perspectives will take place on 21 October 2024 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto. This conference is part of the work that the School of Criminology, as part of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Justice (CIJ) - FDUP, has been carrying out with research into disinformation.
Disinformation was identified by the European Commission in 2020 as the ‘disease of the century’ and, four years later, it continues to be one of the most alarming global challenges, with significant implications, including in the Portuguese context. Disinformation's ability to influence crucial debates on topics such as elections, immigration and conflicts reveals its vast scope and impact. Thus, organising a conference on disinformation is essential to promote a deeper understanding of the phenomenon and develop effective strategies to combat it, while fostering critical awareness among academics, stakeholders and the general public.
CIJ researchers Inês Sousa Guedes, Carla Cardoso, Gilda Santos, Samuel Moreira, Margarida Santos and Josefina Castro are organising the conference.
The conference is scheduled to take place at 9.30am in the Great Hall of the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto.
