1st ELI Portuguese Hub Conference ‘The Challenges of Sustainability for Law’

FDUP

22 May 2024

Sustainability is an unavoidable goal. In 2015, the United Nations presented the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. From environmental policy to production and consumption, the demands of sustainability are imperative. For this reason, the law must also integrate sustainability into its various normative frameworks, legal dogmatics must consider it as a fundamental principle of the legal system and it must develop the procedural means to protect it.

The Portuguese Hub of the European Law Institute (ELI), set up in August 2023 and based at CIJ, has chosen the theme ‘Multilevel Governance of Sustainability’ for the 2023-2026 period. As part of its activities (which can be found here), the 1st Conference of the ELI Portuguese Hub will be held on 22 May 2024. With the theme ‘The Challenges of Sustainability for Law’, it will feature eminent Portuguese experts who will debate three panels: - 1. ‘Sustainability as a principle’; 2. ‘Climate justice’; 3. ‘Corporate and consumer sustainability’. This will be an opportunity for the Portuguese legal community to discuss a fundamental issue that calls us together as lawyers and citizens.

We invite all interested parties to take part.
