Jorge Simões Cortez holds a degree and a master's degree in law from the Catholic University of Porto and a PhD in law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto. He was a university lecturer and is a lawyer and partner at Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados. He is the author of the article "As formalidades da transmissão de quotas e acções no direito português: dos princípios à prática", integrated in the book Questões de Direito Societário em Portugal e no Brasil (Coord. Fábio Ulhoa Coelho, Maria Fátima Robeiro), Almedina, Coimbra, 2012. His doctoral thesis  "A Empresa - reflexões sobre a natureza e a transmissão da empresa (em especial, a transmissão universal parcial)" was published by U.Porto Press on the express recommendation of the Jury and the decision of the Scientific Committee.
